In 1995, Dikhotomia and Pediment were proposed by Tom Stancliffe for the newly created Reiman Gardens. Dikhotomia is meant to create a dialogue between the agrarian and natural environments of campus and its gardens, with one side forming a blade of grass, while the opposing side represents a built environment. Pediment creates a grid of roads centering towards a horizon, pointing towards a central rose signifying the entrance to the rose garden. The artist’s sketches illustrate the scale of the installation, as well as important fabrication details.
