Cast bronze
Collection of the Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis
This cast bronze object is Bart’s largest-scale engagement with the pendulum, a weighted instrument that hangs from a line suspended from a pivot. The object has interested Bart for many reasons: she appreciates its humble origins, elegant proportions, mathematical precision, gravitational energy, and divinatory associations. In her art it often serves to draw attention to the point between the vertical and horizontal, here and there, while oscillating through the equilibrium.
