For Fifth Muse, current Public Art Incubator (PAI) director Dan Perry mentioned the unique aspect of creating the installation with artist Norie Sato. Each artist has a distinctive style when working with outside fabricators, and Perry cites the willingness of Sato to work with PAI’s students who were learning the craft, allowing them to suggest locations for the individual elements suspended from the central wheel and turbine structure. Much like how Sato and many other public artists work with researchers in the public art committee to pull imagery or meaningful symbols into their design, the conversation between artist and fabricators to build a final suspended work of art allowed students to have ownership and pride in the final result.
