Manipulated patina on steel.
On loan from the artist
This sculpture creates a meditative layering of visual metaphor for a dreamlike image of man and nature interacting. How does the interaction of humans and their landscape push out or create a new habitat for animals, and how do we work to repopulate our space with plants and animals that were once native, to tend to the land? Elk were once native in Iowa, however with white settlement and hunting practices they were pushed westward in the 1860s. This sculpture reminds the viewer of the powerful symbiotic relationship and influence humans have over their environments.
