The sky breaks

into a rainbow of food

a river of apples and pears

and squash and beans and oats

and wheat, all balanced perfectly

no matter how much is consumed,

no matter how much flows away

year after year after glorious year,

that much more comes back again

pouring onto us, into us, over us,

forming a bridge, a gate to walk

through, God's shiny cupped hand

"This is my body." He says,

"take and eat. This is my son

who has been sacrificed

for you. Handle with care

this seed, this life, this

fruit of your future

salvation."
