manipulated patina on steel, corregated metal, wood

on loan from the artist

The large metal forms protruding from the figurative images in Stancliffe’s sculptures often echo the forms in the patina drawing. Particularly with these sculptural forms, the flexibility and moldability of the metal as a medium can be seen. Stancliffe states that metal is a preferred medium because of its immediacy, and that he likes being able to bend and create movement, while being able to endlessly change and edit the form. There is a control and immediacy there in working with steel, and the ability to rework things until it suits the work of art.
