DYNETTE MOSHER (BS ’81, MS ’84 home economics education) of Ames touches the lives of hundreds of Iowa State alums and Iowa 4-Hers every year. She is director of alumni relations for Iowa State’s College of Human Sciences. She also has judged 4-H and educational presentations at the Iowa State Fair for several years. While judging, she builds on the 10 years she worked as an Extension home economist.

Mosher credits her interest in judging to her mother Esther (BS ’54 home economics education), who judged 4-H projects for more than 50 years.

“As a child, I often tagged along with my mother as she fulfilled her judging duties,” Mosher said. “I was mentored by some of Iowa State’s best ‘home economists’ as my mom traveled from county fair to county fair. These experiences, along with working in the 4-H Building at the Iowa State Fair while an Iowa State student, led to my passion for learning to judge and assisting 4-H youth.”

Mosher is actively involved in Mosher Angus Farm, a five-generation family farm at Liscomb in northern Marshall County where her parents, brother and family raise purebred Angus cattle, sheep, corn, soybeans and alfalfa.  She plays the piano for worship service, teaches an elementary Sunday School class, and sings in the choir at the Liscomb Church of Christ.

“I truly enjoy helping youth become their very best, while developing lifelong skills,” she said. “Along the way, I meet countless Iowa State University alumni as they return each year to the Iowa State Fair to reflect on their own 4-H projects, catch up with the new, and mentor their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in applying their hands, hearts, heads, and health to better themselves, their clubs and their communities.”

Dean of the College of Human Sciences, Laura Jolly: The College of Human Sciences chose to honor Dynette Mosher as an alumna and CHS alumni relations director who has had a tremendous positive impact on students, college alums/friends in addition to 4-H members who benefit from her remarkable professionalism, grace and kindness.
