One of the first major conservation projects in collaboration with the Public Art Incubator was the re-fabrication of the original G-Nomes by Andrew Leicester from terra cotta into painted aluminum. The original terra cotta had greatly deteriorated due to the Iowa weather, and in discussion with the artist, it was determined painted aluminum would be a workable replacement for the figures. Using working drawings from terra cotta fabricator David Dahlquist, the original intent of the artist was able to be followed by the Public Art Incubator as closely as possible.
