The varying temperatures in Iowa contributes to freeze-thaw cycles that can cause stress on outdoor sculptures. The Janus Agri Altar sculpture at Agronomy Hall experienced stress on the interior joints of the sculpture which were repaired and recoated by Tom Stancliffe. The 14-foot smooth bronze surface of the sculpture is one of the largest in the Art on Campus Collection that is waxed and buffed annually by University Museums curators to prevent streaking and any corrosion on the exterior.
